Trauma and EMDR
Trauma doesn’t refer only to a single dramatic event. Trauma also refers to the effects of repeated moments where we didn't feel safe, seen, or secure, especially during formative years. These experiences shape how we relate to our bodies, our relationships, and our sense of self, often showing up as anxiety, disordered eating, difficulty trusting others, or a persistent inner critic that feels impossible to quiet. The emotions and patterns clients bring to therapy are frequently rooted in trauma that was never fully processed. I'm a certified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) practitioner, and I integrate it alongside relational and body-based approaches, such as Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help clients access and reprocess experiences that talk therapy alone sometimes can't reach. The goal isn't just to understand your trauma, but to help your nervous system and relationships feel less influenced by it.
